Geo-Info have been very actively involved in the Great Western Electrification Programme (GWEP) since early 2015.

This project includes the modernisation, upgrade and electrification of the railway line between Maidenhead and Cardiff. On completion, passenger capacity will be increased with new, longer, electric trains.

As part of this ongoing project, Balfour Beatty Rail (BBR) is responsible for the upgrade programme between Bristol Parkway and Cardiff Central railway stations. It is likely that this part of the programme will be completed during the first quarter of 2019.

BBR have contracted Geo-Info to provide a number of services for this project including - onsite Project Managers; monitoring of track & structures; trial holes setting out & data collection; foundations setting out (incl complex foundations) & foundation installations; foundation as builds.

The onsite Projects Managers have also conducted a number of investigations, where appropriate, to confirm the validity of current and legacy information relating to Buried Services assessments. Final product of these investigations is a Permit To Dig for Foundation Installation or Permit To Dig for Trial Hole. At the moment we provide over 90% of all permits being issued under BBR's and NR's supervision for the project by three of our staff permanently based in the Newport office.
