Seismic Survey

Geo-Info was commissioned to carry out a geophysical survey with a pre-determined site area in Manchester.

Scope of work

The purpose of the survey was to:

Multichannel Analysis of Surface Waves (MASW) was used to determine ground conditions. Recently, a flood event had caused significant erosion along a canal and there was as uncertainty to how weak the rock was below the ground.

Note: A large concrete slab was 3m below the surface which meant other geophysical methods were not possible to use.

Two lines were shot next to one another to correlate. MASW was acquired over 260m using Geode and a 24 channel system.

1. Cross sections tied in to local boreholes

2. Ground conditions, strength for engineering and evaluating ground stiffness

An example of what can be produced is below:

Geo-Info geophysicists are qualified and trained in the use of geophysical equipment. This training along with relevant experience and the use of industry leading equipment enables Geo-Info to carry out a successful survey of a site using a combination of techniques and software.
