Noise and Vibration Monitoring

Geo-Info were commissioned to monitor vibrations and noise levels during passing trains as well as levels of noise during tamping alongside a railway.

Scope of Work

The purpose of the study was to monitor Peak Particle Velocity (PPV) and noise levels in decibels (dB) from the tamping train during track works, to ensure levels were compliant and not causing disturbance to local residents.

Over thirty trains were recorded from different trains (passenger, freight and tamper) and varying carriage length.

Results

Noise levels and vibration were within limits and deemed not destructive or interfering.
